VSUES steadily moves in the direction of Work station virtualization: 320 zero client were included in the university cloud infrastructure.
Zero Client is an innovative solution in the field of corporate IT-infrastructures. On the students or employees workplaces you can see only the display, keyboard, mouse, but hereby the CPU, RW memory and disk subsystem in these devices are missing. Through IP-based networks Zero Client connects the display, keyboard, mouse, audio and USB-periphery with virtual machine under the control of Microsoft Windows 7 running on a hypervisor, VMWare ESXi.
Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service was among the first of universities in the Russian Federation, who implemented the technology on a scale of zero clients.
Zero Clients were installed in:
- 11 classrooms of Computer Center;
- classroom of Higher School of Management;
- classroom of monitor center and quality of specialist training;
- reading room of the library number 2.
Some of the benefits for VSUES of using this technology:
- 7 times the minimal power consumption;
- сentralized management;
- less labor;
- greater security and control.
VSUES will not stop developing its virtual work stations infrastructure. It plans to set 100 zero clients more by the end of 2013.
